Prof. Tran Thuc is the Chairman of the Viet Nam Association of Meteorology and Hydrology, Chairman of the Viet Nam National Committee for the Intergovermental Hydrological Program (UNESCO/IHP), and Vice Chairman of the Viet Nam Advisory Council on Climate Change. He has over 30 years’ experience in hydrometeorology, environment, climate change and disaster risk reduction, including the preparation of the Viet Nam’s National Strategy on Climate Change, National Action Plan to Respond to Climate Change, Nationally Determined Contribution, National Adaptation Plan, Climate Change Scenarios for Viet Nam; Climate change impacts and vulnerability assessments; Guideline for mainstreaming climate change into development plans.

Prof. Mohan Munasinghe is Founder Chairman of the Munasinghe Inst. of Development (MIND), Colombo; Vice Chair of the UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC-AR4), who shared the 2007 Nobel Prize for Peace; and the 2021 Blue Planet Prize Laureate (also called ‘Environmental Nobel Prize’). The Heads of five countries have presented highest national awards to him. He is also Chairman, Presidential Expert Commission on Sustainable Sri Lanka 2030 Vision; Distinguished Guest Professor at Peking University, China; and Honorary Senior Advisor to the Government of Sri Lanka
He has earned post-graduate degrees in engineering, physics and development economics from Cambridge University (UK), Massachusetts Institute of Technology (USA), and McGill University and Concordia University (Canada). Prof. Munasinghe has also received several honorary doctorates (honoris causa). Highlights from 40 years of distinguished public service include working as Senior Energy Advisor to the President of Sri Lanka, Advisor to the United States Presidents Council on Environmental Quality (PCEQ), and Senior Advisor/Manager, World Bank.
He has taught as Visiting Professor at several leading universities worldwide and won many international prizes and medals for his research and its applications. Prof. Munasinghe is world renowned for developing the integrated, trans-disciplinary ‘Sustainomics’ methodology for sustainable development. He has authored over 120 books and 400 technical papers on economics, sustainable development, climate change, power, energy, water resources, transport, environment, disasters, and information technology. He is a Fellow of several internationally recognized Academies of Science and serves on the editorial boards of over a dozen professional journals.

Dr. Nick Vyas, a practitioner in operations management and organizational excellence through the application of Blended Quality Management, AI, ML, RPA, Blockchain, and Data Analytics received his Doctor of Education from USC with his published dissertation on Conceptualization of Higher Education Excellence System (HEES): Use of Advance Data Analytics and Blended Quality Management. A Subject Matter Expert in End-to-End Global Supply Chain Management (GSCM), Vyas has led business transformation for fortune 100 companies. As USC CGSCM’s Executive Director/ Co-founder, Director of MS GSCM and as an Assistant Professor, he was presented with the Golden Apple Award for teaching excellence and recognized as a “Supply Chain Leader” for the APICS Excellence Awards. As a thought leader, he speaks at conferences on global trade, disruptive technology and GSCM.

Prof. Dhakal is the Vice President for Academic Affairs at the Asian Institute of Technology, Thailand since April 2021. In the past he was Dean of School of Environment, Resources and Development, and Head of Department of Energy Environment and Climate Change of Asian Institute of Technology. His main areas of expertise are in energy policy, climate change mitigation and policies, policy modelling and analysis, and cities and climate change. Dhakal actively contributes to international and scientific arena. He is the Coordinating Lead Author of the Nobel Prize winning Inter-governmental Panel on Climate Change’s 5th Assessment Report for the Chapter on Human Settlements, Infrastructure and Spatial Planning, and 6th Assessment Report for the Chapter on Emissions Trends and Drivers. He was also a member of the author group who develop a recent UNEP led global scientific assessment titled Making Peace with Nature, launched by UN Secretary General and UNEP Executive Director in February 2021, led by Bob Watson and Ivar Andreas Baste.

Prof. Roy is an Indian economist, energy and climate scientist. She is the inaugural Bangabandhu Chair Professor at the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) and was appointed to the Bangabandhu Chair on Sustainable Energy in 2018. She also lectures at the Institute’s Department of Energy, Environment, and Climate. Roy earned a doctorate degree from Jadavpur University. She was an Indian Council of Social Sciences Research fellow and a Ford Foundation postdoctoral fellow at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. She is among the network of scientists who shared in the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize awarded to the IPCC (Intergovernmental panel on climate change) served as Coordinating Lead author of industry chapter of WGIII of AR4 and AR5. Roy has been named as the recipient of 2021 Paradigm Award by the Breakthrough Institute, a global think tank based in California, USA, in recognition of her work on rebound in emerging economies which has influenced thinking and research – not only around the role of energy efficiency, but also the nature of economic growth and energy transitions as emergent phenomena.

Ha Dang Son is the Director of the Centre for Energy and Green Growth Research (CEGR) – a not-for-profit research and consulting organization under Vietnam Union of Science and Technology Associations (VUSTA) and has been working actively in research and consultancy works in a wide range of expertise, including: Clean Energy (Renewable Energy, Energy Efficiency and Conservation), Climate Change and Carbon Finance, and Green Growth and Sustainable Development. Mr. Son is current leading a technical team in the USAID Vietnam Low Emission Energy Program II (V-LEEP II) to support the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MOIT) on applying new power planning methodology for Vietnam Power Development Plan VIII to adapt with a higher penetration of renewable energy in the grid; serves as a key Policy Advisor to the Electricity Regulatory Authority of Vietnam in developing the pilot Direct Power Purchase Agreement (DPPA) for Vietnam; and works with the Department of Energy Efficiency and Sustainable Development in MOIT to develop minimum energy performance standards and renewable energy certificate system for power and industrial sectors. He got M.Eng in Industrial Systems Engineering from the Asian Institute of Technology (Thailand), 1998.
Bapon Fakhruddin, PhD

Dr. Fakhruddin is an eminent hydro-meteorologist and disaster risk assessor with 20 years’ global experience in water resources and climate resilience projects. His key areas of expertise are hazards forecasting, climate and multi-hazard risk assessments and coastal community resilience.
His most high profile work is evidenced in the development of multi-hazard warning systems – including a tsunami warning system developed for Indian Ocean countries following the deadly 2004 Boxing Day tsunami. He has since designed and helped to implement climate change and disaster risk projects for more than 30+ countries across Asia and the Pacific. Dr Fakhruddin has played a pivotal role in the design and implementation of multi-hazard early warning systems for floods, cyclones and tsunami, crucial to saving lives and livelihoods, while reducing property damage.
Dr Fakhruddin is currently working as a Technical Director- disaster risk and climate resilience in Tonkin + Taylor International in New Zealand and a mentor and supervisor for postgraduate study in disaster risk management at the University of Auckland (UoA). He is in a Steering Group of the Global Risk Assessment Framework (GRAF) of UNDRR; Co-Chair for the Disaster Loss DATA and Risk Interpretation and Applications (RIA) Working Group of IRDR of ISC/UNDRR. He is Co-Chair CODATA task group FAIR Data for Disaster Risk Research and Programme Board Member of GEO.

The focus of his research is to develop a wide variety of bioproducts, including bio-carbon (potential substitute for coal), bio-oil (potential substitute for petroleum) and syngas (the main building block of any fuel and chemicals) from non-food waste bio resources through green thermo-chemical and bio-chemical processes. The scholarly work has resulted into over 340 publications co-authored mostly with his HQPs (Bachelor=22, Master`s non-thesis=17, Master`s thesis=25, PhD=22, PDF=11, RA=9) in various research outlets (refereed journals (150), book chapters (10), presentations (60), conference papers and technical reports (120)).These research publications result in an H index of 41, i10-index 105 and a total citation of 8027 (Source: Google Scholar, accessed on Sept 30, 2021).

Dr. Sahadat Hossain is a Professor of Civil Engineering at the University of Texas at Arlington (UTA) and director of Solid Waste Institute for Sustainability (SWIS), Texas, USA. Dr. Hossain has more than 25 (Twenty Five) years of professional and research experience in sustainable waste management, landfill, landfill gas to energy and landfill mining. He is also working on research, development and implementation of innovative solutions for sustainable waste management and to provide support for waste management in USA and developing countries. Since 2015, Dr. Hossain is the founding director of Organized Research Center of Excellence (ORCE) – Solid Waste Institute for Sustainability (SWIS). The mission of SWIS is to work on developing clean and healthy urban cities through sustainable waste management. As part of SWIS mission, Dr. Hossain has organized “Sustainable Waste Management and Landfill Training” program ISWA -SWIS Winter School for participants from around the world since 2016, in collaboration with International Solid Waste Association (ISWA). Participants from more than 85 countries participated in the training program in last five years. Dr. Hossain presented on “Garbage: Asset or Liability” – as a TED Talk speaker in April 2016. Dr. Hossain also the leading author of a new book “Waste Crisis: Roadmap for Sustainable Waste Management in Developing Countries” by Wiley Publication 2021 (in Production).
Dr. Hossain has completed his B.S. degree (1994) in Civil Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Bombay, India, Master of Engineering (1997) in Geotechnical Engineering from Asian Institute of Technology (AIT), Bangkok, Thailand, and Ph.D. (2002) from North Carolina State University (NCSU) at Raleigh, NC, USA.

Priyantha is currently the Chief of the Energy Sector Group in the Sustainable Development and Climate Change Department of the Asian Development Bank (ADB).
Priyantha has over 30 years of professional experience including 13 years in ADB. He joined ADB in April 2008 and appointed Director, South Asia Energy Division in March 2017 prior to assuming the current position in August 2021. Before joining ADB, he served as the founder Director General of the Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka and a Senior Professor of Electrical Engineering at the University of Moratuwa.
Priyantha holds a Doctorate in Power Systems Economics from the Imperial College London. He was also a regular Academic Visitor at Imperial College London during the period 1993-1998. He was the Chairman of the South Asia Forum for Infrastructure Regulators (SAFIR) in 2006/07 and was also a member of the Board of Directors of the Ceylon Electricity Board and Sri Lanka Sustainable Energy Authority. He was an Advisory Board member of the Melbourne Energy Institute at the University of Melbourne during 2016-2019.
He is a Chartered Electrical Engineer, a Member of the Institute of Engineering Technology (IET), UK, Senior Member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE) and a Fellow of the Institution of Engineers Sri Lanka. He is a Past President of the Sri Lanka Energy Managers Association (SLEMA).

He lectures in Environmental Engineering and Management Program. His research and teaching interests include Solid – liquid separation technologies for water and wastewater treatment, desalination and membrane technology, Solid waste management: 3R (Waste Reduce, reuse and recycle), Dry Anaerobic digestion, Waste minimization and waste auditing, Wastewater reuse, Clean technologies, Environmental technology assessment, Industrial pollution control. Prof. Visvanathan has been awarded the International Conference on SolidWaste Management and Circular Economy (IconSWM-CE) – Lifetime Achievement Award for 2020 as part of the 10th International Conference on Sustainable Waste Management towards Circular Economy held in Jadavpur University, Kolkata, India.

Dr. Brahmanand Mohanty is an independent expert in sustainable energy. He has been serving the French Agency for Ecological Transition (ADEME) as its regional advisor for Asia since 1991. He was a faculty in Energy in the School of Environment, Resources and Development, Asian Institute of Technology from 1986 to 2020. He has undertaken professional missions during the last three decades for bilateral and multilateral development agencies in Asia as well as in the Middle East, Africa and the Mediterranean countries. He obtained his doctorate in energy from the Institut National Polytechnique (Toulouse, France) in 1985.

Prof. Jy Wu is a faculty member at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte where he serves as director for the interdisciplinary doctoral program in Infrastructure and Environmental Systems. He is graduate of National Taiwan University, Asian Institute of Technology, and Rutgers–State University of New Jersey, and a registered professional engineer. In his early career, he engaged in water treatment and industrial water pollution prevention studies, followed by his contribution to highway runoff control and management. For the last 10 years, he has been teaching graduate courses in renewable energy and energy systems engineering, and directing research in energy markets and their environmental impacts with research collaborators in energy economics and policy. Prof. Wu has received numerous research awards from federal and state agencies, as well as industrial sponsors. He was a Fulbright scholar and Chair of New Technology to Southeast Asia. He was invited by the United Nations as a speaker in several workshops held in the U.S. and overseas, and has lectured to the Taiwan Environmental Protection Administration and city governments in Taiwan on emerging environmental issues. Dr. Tuan completed his M.Eng in Water Resources Engineering at AIT in 1990 and finished PhD. in Applied BioSciences and Engineering, specialized in Environmental Hydrology at Catholic University of Leuven, Belgium. Dr. Tuan has many years of teaching and research in the fields of Water Resources Planning and Management, Environmental Hydrology and Engineering, Climate change Adaptation and Mitigation. During 1993 – 1999, he came to the South of Lao and worked as an engineering expert for implementation of many irrigation systems and water supply stations in a rural development project. In the Mekong River Delta and the Central of Vietnam, he joined many Water Management, Environmental Education and Rural Development programs. During 2012 – 2014, he was a member of the National Working Group of the International Union for Conservation of Nature in Vietnam. Recently, he has participated in research projects involving Climate Change Adaptation in the Mekong River Delta. Dr. Tuan is currently a coordinator of the Mekong River Delta Network for Environmental Protection and Climate Change Adaptation (MekongNet). He is also a member of the Executive Board of Vietnam Rivers Network (VRN).

He worked in (CH2MHill and Halcrow) JACBOS India as Managing Director, Founder Director and Managing Director for DHI (A Danish International Water & Environment Institute), DHV India as head of Business and Operation, Head of Business and Commercial of FUGRO Bv, General Manager and Board Member of RMS Inc., in India. His key practice and research areas include technology intervention, mathematical modeling, Oil & Gas Offshore Engineering, River engineering, Hydro Power Development, Ports and Maritime, sustainable integrated water resources management (IWRM), water and wastewater, waste to energy, climate resilience studies, policy and Governance.
He holds a masters and Ph.D. in Water Resources Management & Engineering. Member Board of Management, KISS University. A Member of the National Committee to prepare a comprehensive road map for Water Management in India – SURFACE WATER: River Rejuvenation, Flood Control, and Dam Safety of Ministry of Jal Shakti, Government of India. NIFA is the Grant Funding agency of USDA and Dr. Bora provides leadership at ‘Farm of the Future’ National Robotic Initiative (NRI), Farm of the Future, Artificial Intelligence (AI) Institutes and Data Science for Food and Agricultural Systems (DSFAS) programs. He represents USDA at ‘the Networking and Information Technology Research and Development (NITRD)’ of National Science and Technology Council of The White House.
He is also NIFA representative at Multistate Projects ‘Automation for Specialty Crop’, ‘UAS for US Agriculture and Natural Resources’ and ‘Technology for Animal Production Systems’. Earlier, he was a Professor and Digital Agriculture Program Leader at Mississippi State University. He was the Chair (2017) of USDA Committee on Precision Agriculture Technologies for Food, Fiber, and Energy Production. Ganesh had collaborative projects with 9 countries in Asia, Europe and Africa including AIT. He is an active member of American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers (ASABE) for 20 years and presently serve as the Chair of Executive Committee on Global Engagement. Ganesh also serve as an US expert of ‘Smart Farming” and “Agricultural Machinery” in International Standard Organization (ISO).

Kiwi Aliwarga is the Chief Executive Officer of UMG Myanmar and Founder of UMG Idealab, an Indonesia-based corporate venture capital and venture builder. He holds a BSc. in industrial engineering from Institut Teknologi Indonesia, an MSc. in engineering from Thailand’s Asia Institute of Technology and an MSc. in System Dynamics at MIT’s Sloan School of Management. He is currently completing his PhD. in agriculture from Gadjah Mada University, Indonesia.
Born and bred in Jakarta, Kiwi began his professional career in business development at Astra International and United Tractors-Indonesia from early to mid 90s before founding UMG Myanmar in 1998. UMG initially penetrated the local market by trading generators and spare parts of heavy equipment and then further expanded into nine business sectors and more than 40 subsidiaries. Kiwi has set the ambitious goal of building UMG to live more than next 100 years by relying on three essential pillars – people, leadership, and the relentless pursuit of excellence.
Seeing the impressive growth in Southeast Asian technology industry, Kiwi Aliwarga then initiated the founding of UMG Idealab. Its business lines are being divided into two parts: An incubator in Myanmar that helps startups begin their businesses, and a corporate venture capital and venture building in Indonesia that helps initiated startups with seed funding investments. The firm is also investing in technology-based startups in Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore and China.
Through UMG Idealab, Kiwi Aliwarga also mentors young people to build startups that have the vision to solve problems that will be faced by Indonesia’s upcoming generations. His belief in the youth to further a nation’s prosperity through technological advancements is the foundation in which he hopes others can further nurture.
Dr. Hayat Ullah

Hayat Ullah is working as a “Regional Agriculture Expert” at the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) where he is managing various projects and research activities of the postgraduate students. Prior to his present role, he worked as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the Department of Food, Agriculture and Bioresources, School of Environment, Resources and Development, AIT, Bangkok, Thailand From Feb 2020 to May 2021. Under that role, his main focus of research was Climate Smart Agriculture and worked under a project entitled “Research Support for the Development of Specialized Expert System for Agrometeorological Early Warning for Climate Resilient Agriculture in Pakistan”. Before this he successfully completed another project entitled “Eco-friendly Water Management for Sustainable Wetland Agriculture in the Greater Mekong Region” funded by the FAO. Hayat Ullah completed his Ph.D. at AIT as HEC overseas scholar and his undergraduate studies at the University of Peshawar. He was awarded with the most outstanding scholar award in MSc. and International Plant Nutrition Institute (IPNI) Award during his Ph.D. in recognition of his outstanding performance. His research interests lie in the area of Crop and Environmental Interaction, ranging from Water Management to Nutrient Management. He has collaborated actively with researchers in several other disciplines of crop botany, particularly horticulture and weed sciences. Hayat has published 33 research publications and book chapters in renowned international journals/publishers. Hayat attended 3 international conferences during his Ph.D. and 4 country consultations involving government ministries as a part of his Postdoctoral work. Delivering seminars on Scholarly Writing and Scientific Publication at AIT is also an important aspect of Hayat’s career.

Prof. Matthew is a teaching professor at the Department of Information and Communication Technology, SET, AIT also the Director, AIT Artificial Intelligence Center. His teaching subjects are in the domain of computer sciences e.g. computer systems architecture, web application engineering, and etc. while his research is focusing on machine vision and learning applying to mobile robot perception a navigation. It is foreseeing that those machines will have potential to revolutionize the way we live and work. In his work Matthew aims to eliminate barrier to widespread use of inexpensive robots that current systems lack crucial abilities to perceive and interact with the surrounding environment by combining statistical learning theory with computer vision and integrating the resulting technology into autonomous robot sensory and control systems. Xavier Fernando is a Professor at Ryerson University, Toronto, Canada. He has (co-)authored over 200 research articles, three books (one translated to Mandarin) and holds five patents (two provisional). He is the Director of Ryerson Communications Lab that has received total research funding over $3.2 Million since 2008 from industry and government. He is an Associate Editor for the IEEE IoT Journal and IEEE Consumer Technology Magazine. He was an IEEE Communications Society Distinguished Lecturer and delivered over 60 invited talks all over the world. He has chaired the IEEE Toronto Section (2012-13) and IEEE Canada Central Area (2016-17) serving the IEEE Region-7 Board. Currently he serves as the IEEE Canada (Region-7) Vitality Coordinator.
His work has won 30 awards and prizes so far including, number of IEEE awards, Professional Engineers Ontario Award in 2016, IEEE Microwave Theory and Techniques Society Prize in 2010, Sarnoff Symposium Prize in 2009, Opto-Canada best poster prize in 2003 and CCECE best paper prize in 2001. Ryerson University nominated him for the Top 25 Canadian Immigrants award in 2012 in which was a finalist.
He has been in the organizing/steering/technical program committees of numerous conferences and journals. He was the General Chair for the IEEE International Humanitarian Technology Conference (IHTC) 2017 and IEEE Canadian Conference on Electrical and Computer Engineering (CCECE) 2014. Dr. Itesh is heads Systems Research and Development Division at RIMES. He has developed and supervised planning, design, development of several decision support systems, solutions, and processes that meet early warning and domain specific user needs effectively and efficiently. He also leads the implementation of the Impact based forecasting, data mining and analytics and prioritizes mainstreaming and application of weather and climate information in decision making for critical Sectors like Agriculture, Water Resources, Disaster Management. Itesh has more than 15 years of combined operational experience in the DSS development, and community level Capacity development of the end users in the RIMES member states in using these tools. He has operational working Experience in more than 15 countries including the Africa, Asia and the Pacific. Itesh holds a Doctor’s degree in Engineering in Disaster Preparedness Mitigation and Management and master’s degree in Engineering major in Information and Communication Technologies from Asian Institute of Technology, Thailand.
